Scottish Currency!

Hi my name is Dave and for the last few days I have been in Scotland with some clients www.boxby.co.uk and www.fantasycouriers.com I am a marketing consultant by trade and own and run www.mytchmac.co.uk and also www.salesandmarketingforums.co.uk

Over the last few days I have had a number of conversations with local Scottish people that have mentioned how hard it is to spend any Scottish currency in England. So I have decided to go on a little adventure and try to spend some Scottish currency in England but with a little twist when I come back on Tuesday 01/07/08

It has been decided that I will be bringing back a variety of notes but to include a £100-00 note from the RBOS and also £1-00 notes from RBOS. These notes will then be taken into a number of shops in and around the Berkshire area where I will be attempting to spend them and all activity will be recorded on this blog so please keep an eye for any updates.

  1. I love it that Marks & Spensers will let you pay in Euros in their Oxford Street branch, but not in Scottish Notes!

  2. As someone who owned retail stores. scottish currency is a pain in the bum for three separate reasons.

    (a) It is hard enough to get staff to recognise UK forged fivers – you wouldn believe how good they are.- so for that reason we only took them from regulars

    (b) Customers hate recieveing them in change – so we were forced to bank them – which in itself is a nuisance – banking cash costs money.

    (c) As a retailer I would refuse a £100 note – it plays hell with the float, and opening the safe is ALWAYS a risk.. Ask anyone who has had retail staff attacked

So my vote is keep it north of the border.
