A simple dinner with clients and now the blog is getting picked up by many people.

I have contacted some of the Scottish press to see if we cant get a mention in some of the papers there.

Well it has been quite manic catching back up on things and it has been a while since I posted so I shall bring you all back up to date.

I arrived back into Gatwick airport on Wednesday evening after a great week in Glascow and to be honest was way too tired to think about attempting to spend any of the Scottish money that evening.

Wednesday saw me go into 2 local shops with a £10-00 note and a £20-00 to have both of them accepted without any question whatsoever. A pharmacy where I brought a few bits totalling around £13-00 and straight away with friendly smiles I was made to feel welcome (as i always am) and got change in English Sterling. Then a few doors up in a well known newsagents chain I used the £10-00 to purchase about £5-00 of goods again with no queston and a good shopping experience.

Today I went into one of the best known gambling shops there is in the country to have the £100-00 note turned down categorically. I had to go to the cashpoint and get English Sterling. So far 2 that accept it and 1 that does not although I would hazard a guess that if I had used the £100-00 in the other 2 place it may very well have been turned down.

Tommorow I shall be visiting one of the top supermarkets in the country and also a top clothing retailers with news to follow.

The saga continues.

I have just been down to the RBOS (staff were fantastic and very helpful) and got the £100-00 note and 5 x £1-00 notes as well so I am ready for the little adventure.

Tommorow will see me land in Gatwick at 10-25pm and Wednesday will be the first day that I start to try to use the notes. There is obviously a good chance that it may very well be the first shop that changes the currency and so I shall stop blogging but I don’t personally think that will be the case.

Inflation surge Most of the Scottish currency is backed by holdings of Bank of England notes, but the banks are allowed to issue an additional sum equivalent to the notes and coins in circulation in 1845.

At £3m, this figure now represents a very small proportion of the value of all Scottish banknotes.

Elsewhere in the UK, the surge of inflation in the 1970s sealed the fate of the pound note.

It had become worth too little to justify the costs of printing notes which had a much shorter life than coins.

The initial move from paper was kick-started with the minting of more than 400m pound coins in 1983.

Made from a nickel-brass alloy, each of the new coins added 9.5g in weight to pockets and purses.

In 1997, it was joined in general circulation by the even-larger £2 coin.

For major retailers with branches throughout the UK, the pound note is only likely to be presented in their Scottish outlets.

But they appear to be happy to continue larger quantities of paper money in Scotland.

Elinor Jayne of the Scottish Retail Consortium said: “Retailers will accept customers’ money in whatever form.

“As long as customers want to use paper notes, retailers will be happy to accept them.”
